Meet Rik
On Thursday, 16th February 2012 to a packed Church of St Mary the Virgin, Upottery the new Team Rector, Rik Peckham was "installed" in the course of the Licensing Service to the Mission Community of the parishes of Dunkeswell, Luppitt, Sheldon, Upottery and Broadhembury, as recorded in the March edition of the Parish News.
The Church Wardens and Mission Community expressed that they look forward to working with Rik and anticipate that he will infuse church life with a new energy and enthusiasm that will pour over into the whole of the local community.
Rik has been quoted as saying that church life and worship should be enjoyed and that laughter and smiles are good medicine for the journey we undertake together and parishoners are invited to join him as he starts the exciting journey of faith with us all.
Welcome to the Blackdowns Rik!
WELCOME to this East Devon village, one social club, a village stores and post office, a hairdressers shop, an Indian restaurant and takeaway, a mobile hairdresser, a village hall, a community centre and a doctors' surgery.
We also have an air and parachute centre with adjacent coffee bar and restaurant, microlight training, small air museum, nearby gliding club, a go-kart circuit, an equestrian centre, a village church and abbey, a methodist church, and a youth club.
There are two playing fields, a bowling club, a football club, typically quaint Devon cottages, a modern housing estate, a busy industrial estate, a village pond, Lakeview Manor, a trout farm and fishery, a plant nursery, plus nearby caravan and camping park, a garage, all the usual related societies and a parish magazine. In fact you could say Dunkeswell is a model village...
Something for everyone really, I hope? - Editor
